‘Allen Ruppersberg Drawing’ is a historical survey of Ruppersberg’s early drawings, a number of them reproduced here for the first time. The essay by Leslie Jones, curator of prints and drawings at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, explores the complex relationship of drawing and writing in Ruppersberg’s work. Books are predominant and recurring motifs in Ruppersberg’s drawings and relate to the artist’s interest in exploring the intersection of literary and visual experiences.
