This book includes 100 photographs of the 100 rulers made on the occasion of Jonathan Monk’s exhibition SL at the Torre Bonomo in Spoleto. The quicker you flick through it, the faster it moves.

Each book is represented only by its measurements, leaving the viewer to try to figure which title is represented on each page. The numbers are all added up and the full size of Monk’s collection of Prince books is given at the end of the book. »

Autobiography by Jonathan Monk is the first attempt of display of the artist’s collection of « Crackers » copies by Ed Ruscha. « In my early teens my mother would often react to certain things I did or said with… you must be crackers… » (extract from Monk’s text on the book).

Following Ryan Gander’s moon sequence in Leporello N° 04, Jonathan Monk proposes that a new day is dawning. Saving himself the cumbersome task of yet again* walking in Ed Ruscha’s footsteps along the seemingly endless Sunset strip, Monk captures the zeitgeist through more accessible means. With the camera of his iPhone 12 set to Panoramic mode, Monk photographed Ruscha’s 1966 milestone artist’s book – perhaps the most celebrated book to ever utilize the leporello format.

My Backside revient sur l’exposition éponyme de Jonathan Monk qui a eu lieu à la librairie Florence Loewy du 1er février au 14 mars 2020. Durant celle-ci, tous les livres de Jonathan Monk, étaient présentés retournés, de façon à ne montrer que les quatrièmes de couverture. Ce catalogue rejoue ce geste de retournement en donnant à voir les légendes des images par transparence, au verso de chaque page.

Une compilation de notes de restaurants collectées entre Rome et Berlin sur lesquelles l’artiste conceptuel britannique reproduit les œuvres d’autres artistes (Luciano Fabro, Donald Judd, Andy Warhol, Jenny Holzer, André Cadere, Maurizio Cattelan…). Un geste d’appropriation qui reflète un discours sur l’état actuel du marché de l’art tout en proposant une vision personnelle de l’histoire de l’art des années 1960 à nos jours.

Cette publication accompagne, reflète et étends l’exposition de l’artiste à la Kunsthaus Basseland.

The Secret Exhibition was held in Summerhall, Edinburgh from 2 August 2012 – 31 December 2012. Sixty-four works by Jonathan Monk from the Heart Fine Art Collection were exhibited in a hidden attic space within the Summerhall complex. Visitors to the exhibition were by invite only. One hundred and twenty-one people saw the exhibition curated by Paul Robertson.

En 2011, quinze artistes furent invités à créer un poster, à l’afficher où ils le souhaitaient et à commenter le poster dans le contexte choisi. Ils devraient être découverts, négligemment accrochés, aux détours d’une rue, aimantés sur un frigidaire ou encore placardés dans une ruelle, accrochant le regard du passant. Forth & Back est un projet qui prend la forme d’une publication et d’une édition mais il a également donné lieu à des évènements, tels qu’une exposition, une performance, un mix-tape, ou encore un snack éphémère.
